CITY BOSSA is a visionary music project launched in Tokyo in 2020 by music producer/director Renato Iwai and guitarist Elias Thiago.
Renato and Thiago each bring a wide range of experience from the music industry, having produced numerous works in both Japan and Brazil across genres such as pop, J-pop, anime songs, commercial music, bossa nova, MPB, and hip-hop. Drawing from these diverse influences, they created a unique musical identity through CITY BOSSA.
Their sound blends the rhythms and soul of Brazilian music with the textures of pop and urban music, resulting in a distinctive, genre-crossing sound.
In 2025, CITY BOSSA begins a new chapter with the addition of Riho Tsuji, singer-songwriter born and raised in New York to Japanese heritage. Together, Renato, Thiago, and Riho craft music that feels modern yet nostalgic, rooted yet boundary-crossing. That balance— of place, culture, and sound — defines their first EP, “DUALITY”.
