CO/NTRY is an adult-contemporary post-punk duo comprised of Newfoundland-born/Montreal-based artists Beaver Sheppard and David Whitten.
They recorded a first opus in 2014, Failure, which spiced up the Montreal’s synthpop scene. Since then, these excentric figures have roamed and electrified underground venues, from Toronto, Paris, Berlin, to internationally renowed festivals such as Pop Montreal and M for Montreal.
Widely inspired by artists merging music with performance art such as <a href="spotify:artist:7xZHrltZh8zIRvjimgABvj" data-name="Nina Hagen">Nina Hagen</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6uVeWolwyRDrT84lLsaZyW" data-name="Suicide">Suicide</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1uFG5Tg7iA7wd56RchxvWw" data-name="Klaus Nomi">Klaus Nomi</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2f9ZiYA2ic1r1voObUimdd" data-name="Grace Jones">Grace Jones</a> or <a href="spotify:artist:2s4tjL6W3qrblOe0raIzwJ" data-name="Yoko Ono">Yoko Ono</a>, Co/ntry is dystopic and quirky. Three years of standout shows lead them to their second album, <a href="spotify:album:71Um8DqyeuUekDtloqsBaB" data-name="Cell Phone 1">Cell Phone 1</a>, released in April 2017 under Fantome Records.
