Originally from Agoura Hills, California, the wide-ranging indie rock duo Dub Thompson incorporates elements of post-punk, Krautrock, psych pop, and dub into its music. The band comprises guitarist Matt Pulos and drummer Evan Laffer, who met in middle school and eventually began playing music together while in high school. Taking inspiration from such luminaries as Can, Kraftwerk, the Fall, This Heat, and Pere Ubu, the pair focused on jamming as opposed to recording during most of high school; by the time they signed with Dead Oceans, they were still in their late teens. Laffer and Pulos worked with Foxygen's Jonathan Rado on their debut album, 9 Songs, which arrived in June 2014. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
