Ask Cory Johnson how he describes himself, and you’ll immediately get the answer “The Charming Dirtbag” along with a proudly mischievous smile. And, to be completely honest, it’s a moniker that fits every bit as well as the cowboy hat atop his head. Much like his preferred epithet of choice, Johnson’s style is a bit of a whimsical contradiction, albeit one that makes total sense when experienced: just as much Kings of Leon as it is Billy Joe Shaver, and with a little stomp & holler blues thrown in for good measure. A recent transplant to Austin, Johnson has quickly made a name for himself through his brand of country-tinged indie rock & roll and his introspective, honest, truly lived-in and lived-out songwriting style. Be on the lookout for him ordering a shot of tequila with a Lone Star Light after setting his stuff up on stage at a dive near you soon.
