CRduo is a violin and guitar formation of Costa Rican musicians playing their own original concert arrangements of instrumental masterpieces in a virtuosic way.
This string duo was founded in 2020 by violinist André Robles Field and guitarist Carlos Alberto Castro. They are currently based in Berlin and Vienna, respectively. The name of the ensemble is derived from the initials of the musician’s surnames —Castro & Robles— and their native country —Costa Rica—.
Musicians and lifelong friends, these Costa Rican musicians perform virtuosic masterpieces in their own concert arrangements for violin and guitar. Castro and Robles dare to take risks: they make use of unconventional technical resources to search for new music textures, in order to represent human feelings and awake deep emotions in the audience.
Because of their cultural background, these two passionate instrumentalists feel a strong attraction towards the music of Latin American and Spanish composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Yet, they feel responsible to interpret it with the same commitment as they do with the so-called “classical music”.
