Criss MJ is a UK‑based singer and songwriter working with artists across Tanzania and Nigeria. Born in France and raised in the DRC, he has been creating music since 2001.
His journey began long before the studio. Inspired by Ferre Gola and other Congolese legends, Criss grew up immersed in early‑2000s Congolese melodies, rhythms, and vocal textures that shaped his sound. Quiet and observant in school, he became known in college for crafting unique melodies in multiple languages—music was instinctive for him.
Before completing his Computer Science degree, he studied music at The Manchester College, reaching Level 2 before pausing formal training in 2019.
Everything shifted when he spent time in Tanzania. He learned Swahili fluently, collaborated with local artists, and expanded his musical identity across East Africa. He now travels often to Kenya, building connections and exploring the region’s vibrant scene.
Criss once had a large catalogue online but chose to remove everything and reinvent himself. Today, he returns with a fresh identity as a Kompa artist, blending Congolese roots, East African influence, and multilingual creativity. He continues to evolve, experiment, and explore new themes.
Disciplined and quietly driven, Criss spends countless hours in his home studio—his sanctuary—crafting the next chapter of his musical story.
