Daniel Hall’s music has taken in two stages: early solo hits and party circuiting Fresh Music Live. But his early-2,000’s pop hits remain some of his most beloved work. And apparently, Hall himself seems to agree – at least judging by “Driving Blind,” the first single from his upcoming EP.
In this minimal love-healing throb, Hall takes you on a road trip through 80s nostalgia, lavished with a minimal electro soundscape, dreamy vocals, and gated reverb beats. From its melodic groove to its air of positivity, the track feels authentic. The chorus hooks the Europop veteran exploiting his upper register, serenading “whatever this is now, let’s make this last forever,” pleading that the good (and bad) things in life are better when we ride it out together – redeeming love “with you by my side”.
His first EP, set for release in the Spring of 2022, is Hall’s first since 2003’s We Love To Entertain You. That work largely featured arena thumping originals. In contrast, the 5-track comeback EP consists of original material and collaborations with Hamburg producer Julius Trautvetter, a.k.a. Naked Cat. Work on the EP began during last year’s studio lockdown at 106 Hz Studio in Hamburg and HEG House Studio in Dusseldorf.
