Darach features original music from two of Dublin’s well-established musicians, Garry Sullivan and Gerry Courtney who have worked together on and off since the early eighties. , Garry invited Gerry to join the group completing the line-up and so the group Sunset was complete. Sunset reunited on a couple of occasions to mark 20 and 25 year anniversaries of their formation. However planning for Sunset’s 30th anniversary proved difficult and as a result, Gerry and Garry revived The Lonesome Boatmen with original Sunset member Paudy Carey on board. It was during this time that Garry and Gerry began to write original tunes, (they had dipped their toes into the writing pond many years before resulting in a tune for Sunset but that was as far as it went). Garry and Gerry began to compose more music and decided to go into the studio with them. This saw the birth of Darach. Together with some of their musician friends, Christy Sheridan (of Diarmuid O’Leary and the Bards, Ronnie Drew, Dubliners among others) on banjo and mandolin and Alan Shelley (Memphis, Cover Up) on keyboards and bass, they put together a sound that has hints of Clannad, and Stockton’s Wing while maintaining its own originality. Currently there are many more tunes to record and writing continues. This year Garry and Gerry have decided to share their music with a wider audience and so they commissioned the development of this website and so here they are.
