Back in 1993 Dark At Dawn was formed by Torsten Sauerbrey, Peter Arenz, Michael Lowin, Thorsten Kohlrausch and Oliver Schoening. After two demo tapes and some local shows, they recorded a mini-CD called "Oceans Of Time" in 1995. The reviews in Metal magazines, fanzines and others - nationwide operating magazines and daily press - were excellent, numerous gigs and interviews were the consequence. In addition to that DAD played the famous Wacken Open Air for the first time and supported Saxon in a couple of shows.
In 1998 the band finally inked a deal with Iron Glory Records. The debut album was recorded by Oliver Philipps and Christian Moos in the Spacelab studios and was released in late 1999.
The reactions and sound check positions for "Baneful Skies" were extremely good; Rock Hard position #7, Metal Heart position #3. To support the release, DAD played a couple of gigs with Sacred Steel and performed again on the Wacken Open Air 2000 and other important festivals.
In November 2000 DAD recorded the second album “Crimson Frost” in the Stage-One-studio with Andy Classen. Unpublished demo tracks from the early days were rediscovered in “First Beams Of Light”. This record was produced in the band’s own Metal Sound-Studio.
After different negotiations with interested labels, DAD decided to work with AFM-Records. In Oktober 2003 they published the album "Of Decay And Desire". AFM also decided to create a new band logo to underline the growing professionalism of the band.
