Greek heavy metal band Dark Nova were originally founded as Dark Devils in 1987, and proceeded to experiment with a mixture of progressive metal and classical music on their first demos and their eventual debut album, The Dark Rhapsodies, released in 1993. Poor distribution and little promotional support from their domestic record label soon led to hard times for the group, however, and following a compilation appearance, in years to come Dark Nova would mostly subsist as an on-call support act for visiting metal luminaries like Testament, Rage, and Fates Warning. A second album, puzzlingly entitled 1999 a Step Beyond?, was finally completed and unleashed in the year cited, and after yet another long silence and a few lineup changes, vocalist Michael Choulakis, guitarist Elias Koskoris, keyboardist Mary Tassouli, bassist Kiki Lara, and drummer Nick Adams reemerged with 2005's Sivilla disc. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
