Slow Motion is the song Das Pop just had to finish, even if it took over two decades to do so. The song builds a bridge between a young bunch of hopefuls in a Ghent rehearsal room at the beginning of the century and the two remaining members, Bent Van Looy and Niek Meul in a sauna/studio near present day Stockholm. An unused phrase from 2002 was used as kindling for this spun out, slow burn of a track. Bent’s brooding voice, seemingly coming from afar, spins a tale of loss and compassion, of hope and consolation over the brittle fragility of metallic drums machines and pulsating bass organs. Lost echoes of guitar stabs pave the way for a beautiful and cathartic coda: a soothing choir, promising the listener that, perhaps, everything will turn out okay.
Slow motion soul will be released as a single in the first days of a new year as the ideal antidote to dark winter nights and the chilly schlepp to work.
