DAXMA (pronounced DOCK-ma, the term for a Zoroastrian funerary temple) is an Oakland, CA based post-rock/doom metal band that began in Santa Cruz, CA in 2014. It is a collaborative project consisting of members Isaac R. (guitars, vocals, bass), Jessica T. (violin, vocals, piano), Forrest H. (guitar, bass), and Thomas I. (drums).
In 2016, DAXMA released their first EP, “The Nowhere of Shangri-la.” The following year, they released their debut album “The Head Which Becomes the Skull,” a meditation on the soul's journey from birth through death inspired by the philosophical works of Hegel, Kierkegaard, and The Heart Sutra. DAXMA’s second EP, “Ruins Upon Ruins” was released through Blues Funeral Recordings in 2019 as part of their Postwax Series. In 2021, DAXMA released their second full-length album “Unmarked Boxes," an intimate work exploring themes of grief and hope inspired by and named for the 13th century Rumi poem, which was released on gatefold double vinyl by Blues Funeral Recordings and Majestic Mountain Records.
In December 2024, DAXMA present their new EP "There Will Come Tomorrow," an exploration of what it means to hold onto feelings of hope in the darkest of times. Written and recorded during some of the most dispiriting events in modern history, these four songs were inspired by the connections we share with those who keep us afloat, and they imagine the possibility of a better world made from the ashes of this one.
