Debora Gurgel is an awarded pianist, flutist, arranger and composer from São Paulo, Brazil. She writes contemporary Brazilian music with strong roots in Brazilian popular music and jazz improvisation. Gurgel has released 11 albums under her name and many other works as a pianist and arranger. Debora wrote several educational books about Brazilian musical language. She currently teaches in well-known schools in Brazil. Gurgel is also a regular arranger for Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica Brasil, Orquestra Jovem Tom Jobim and São Paulo Big Band, having written for artists such as Richard Bona, Chico Pinheiro, Joyce Moreno and Amilton Godoy.
She has performed in countries such as Japan, USA, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, in venues such as Tokyo Jazz Festival , Blue Note Tokyo, Billboard Live Osaka (JAP), Yoshi’s Oakland (USA), and several Brazil’s venues and festivals.
