Desmond Cheese

Known for their eclectic mix of genres, <a href="spotify:artist:4fpbUiU0gUoOO2S3JGRbXA" data-name="Desmond Cheese">Desmond Cheese</a> seamlessly blends elements of hip-hop, jazz, soul, and electronic music, creating a unique and mellow soundscape that has garnered them a dedicated following. Formed in 2010, the band comprises producer Mak Cheese, multi-instrumentalist <a href="spotify:artist:4SfeCq3C1nbHxD0og1BZ83" data-name="Desmond Bagely">Desmond Bagely</a> and Rohan Seekers (from Life on Earth) on keys.

The band have been making music in Meanjin (Brisbane, Australia) since 2010, when they released their first album, ‘<a href="spotify:album:783itfZjWJJWks4tvQYMW8" data-name="Fame &amp; Fortune">Fame &amp; Fortune</a>’. These were the tracks that spread far and wide on file sharing sites, SoundCloud and bootlegged CD’s and in a time before Spotify and algorithms the band found a global audience of chillers who vibed their vision.

Since then the band have released 5 more albums: ‘<a href="spotify:album:22Fbre0GvmxP30feq5eMCk" data-name="The Island">The Island</a>’ (2011), ‘<a href="spotify:album:1rfhqMQFbvtkO4JoVKAksD" data-name="Space and Time">Space and Time</a>’ (2012), ‘<a href="spotify:album:1nQpKycRWwOF80MuThQR5Z" data-name="Peace &amp; Quiet">Peace &amp; Quiet</a> (2015), ‘<a href="spotify:album:6fbeuhooGQsQWCDVSRphm8" data-name="Sunrise and Set">Sunrise and Set</a>’ (2019 and ‘<a href="spotify:album:44m6SqWfuHNxvrCcFuTRtp" data-name="Visions">Visions</a>’ (2022). They also released a remastered live recording from their 2019 tour of Europe called ‘<a href="spotify:album:6iieqhASrNXPVqG2cXBC02" data-name="Live Near Amsterdam">Live Near Amsterdam</a>’ (2020).

They have collaborated with various artists including <a href="spotify:artist:3rWZHrfrsPBxVy692yAIxF" data-name="WILLOW">WILLOW</a> on her track &#39;<a href="spotify:track:2Drm5lwdpGraHp6CMPQx4Z" data-name="Flowers">Flowers</a> ’ (2014, Roc Nation) and their sound draws from the musical stylings of <a href="spotify:artist:0IVcLMMbm05VIjnzPkGCyp" data-name="J Dilla">J Dilla</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5LhTec3c7dcqBvpLRWbMcf" data-name="Madlib">Madlib</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6ra4GIOgCZQZMOaUECftGN" data-name="Frank Zappa">Frank Zappa</a> and many more. They blend analogue production, lo-fi beats, synthesis, experimental effects and eclectic samples from nature and pop culture whilst featuring local artists like <a href="spotify:artist:73yTrm2QHXebMwdFzBPgyq" data-name="Haitch Music">Haitch Music</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2oWmz9UDYm0rf7CSwcosSk" data-name="Roman MC">Roman MC</a> and Gareth Mewes (from <a href="spotify:artist:2K6L2H4ajoA9OIWyQ1eO9B" data-name="Cigány Weaver">Cigány Weaver</a>).
