Strobelights and dry ice smoke, the night’s already been too long and darkness takes hold. Suddenly, a synth line cuts through the noise and a trumpet appears, lighting up the dancefloor like a ray of light: DIE SELEKTION are back.

For the first time in six years, the genre bending German-Swiss band released a new album, building on its signature sound somewhere between Synth Wave and Neue Deutsche Welle, between a techno-fueled dancefloor and Goth, between humour and (un)holy seriousness. And just like that, they deliver the ideal soundtrack of hope fit for the postapocalyptic present we’re enduring right now.

ZEUGE AUS LICHT evokes long nights on a smoky dancefloors, the first glimpse into the sun after falling out of a night club or waking up bruised and battered after the end of the world. It’s both a farewell and rebirth, and it marks a new sound for DIE SELEKTION, a sound that doesn’t shy away from pop. No, quite the opposite – it cheekily refers to 80’s synth pop while staying true to the brutalist yet melancholic sound that’s always been at the heart of this unique band.

ZEUGE AUS LICHT promises both transcendence and a new beginning. With no fear in its heart, DIE SELEKTION heads towards a new chapter. And we’re excited for all that comes next.
