Brighton-based blue-haired beat-crafter Piper Hewitt-Dudding, aka Dilemma, has been a rising star as of late in the drum and bass scene. Since her debut with Skankandbass late 2016, which saw Radio 1 airplay and support from Calibre among others, she has graced the likes of Pola & Bryson’s Soulvent own Records, Random Movement’s Flight Pattern, Lifestyle Music and more.
A particular love for liquid as well as techy, rolling drum and bass is evident in her productions, however Dilemma draws inspiration from an array of different genres ranging from grunge to hip hop, industrial to psychedelic rock – as a result, her productions have a rare and infectious musicality to them, seizing ideas from a diverse pool of genres into a new, drum and bass context.
With 2018 seeing Dilemma feature on Drum&BassArena’s annual compilation album, praised in Mixmag and supporting acts such as Zero T, her upward curve shows no sign of stopping. This year alone has seen Dilemma take her varied DJing style to the legendary fabric, the revered Soul in Motion and in the summer, the sophomore Hospitality on the Beach – not to mention sharing lineups with Hybrid Minds, Alix Perez, Technimatic and Keeno among others. Ongoing support from UKF, Drum&BassArena and Skankandbass means 2020 is set to be a big year for Dilemma, with many respected eyes watching this budding new artist.
