DIY HIFI is the musical project of Ian Bevis, a musician and producer from Vancouver BC. Formerly of the band Bear Mountain, Ian began releasing records under the name DIY HIFI in 2018.
Over the past 6 years, Ian’s writing and production work has mainly contributed to releases with his former band, Bear Mountain, often blending dance music sub-genres and alternative style hooks to create something that has been hard to categorize under the quick to assume House, Electronic, Alternative, or even Singer/Songwriter genres. His latest release under DIY HIFI is a natural extension of that experimentation.
On his website, Ian says “DIY HIFI is a made up genre of music. It’s called that because that is what it sounds like to me. It’s made at home, with friends, usually on a laptop using synthesizers, audio samples, voice recordings, and sometimes guitar, mixed together until it sounds good and feels right. It usually makes you want to dance, and hopefully, makes you inspired”.
