When Wesley Dees aka Dj-Wes contributed to ScHoolBoyQ’s Setback mixtape, he landing his first placement on the song "Cycles" in 2011. He continued working in Los Angeles as a DJ, while still producing music for local artist gaining notoriety. In 2012, Dj-Wes appeared as a contributing producer on on the song "You Got It" / "Fantasy," off Casey Veggie's mixtape, Customized Greatly Vo. 3. Later he linked up with Black Hippy and produced the posse cut "On Some Other Shit," featuring Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboyQ, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock.
Dj-Wes’ defining moment arrived when he was afforded the opportunity to work with Chris Brown on his seventh studio album Royalty. Dj- Wes is one of two main producers on “Picture Me Rollin’,” the albums first released single.
Dj-Wes continued to cut his teeth behinds sounds of artists such as Mila J, BlocBoy JB, Nef the Pharaoh and Tink to name a few. A high note emerged when DJ Wes locked in a huge placement on Nicki Minaj’s Queen album with the critically lauded "LLC" track. USA Today stated "LLC is a banger with a message [...] and has one of the best choruses of the album.” Stephen Colbert even riffed to the LLC track live on The Late Show when Nicki Minaj was a guest promoting Queen.
The future is looking bright for Dj-Wes with several new major projects in the pipeline including spreading his wings into film/TV scoring. Dj-Wes has always embraced the culture of music within his soul and now he’s ready for the next journey
