While steeped in the tropicalia and bossa nova traditions of his Brazilian heritage, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Domenico Lancellotti has placed creativity and experimentation at the forefront of his career. First emerging in the 1990s with the rock group Mulheres Que Dizem Sim, he joined the Luaka Bop roster in the 2000s as part of the psych-samba trio the +2's alongside peers Moreno Veloso and Alexandre Kassin, later working as a solo artist.

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1972, Domenico eventually followed in the musical footsteps of his father, acclaimed composer and singer Ivor Lancellotti, and began establishing himself as an in-demand drummer and collaborator with a wide variety of Brazilian acts including Orquestra Imperial, Adriana Calcanhotto, Marcos Valle, and Caetano Veloso. As part of the +2's, he recorded three albums, each one led by a different bandmember with the suffix +2 added to the title. His own album as a leader, Domenico+2: Sincerely Hot, was released by Luaka Bop in 2004. Making his own proper solo debut in 2011, he released the adventurous Cine PrivĂȘ, a fusion of modern tropicalia, indie rock, and avant-garde pop that featured a wide range of collaborators from former bandmates Veloso and Kassin to American producer Money Mark and Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche. The following year Domenico took part in an artistic occupation of London coinciding with the 2012 Olympic Games. His collaborations there with U.K. musician Sean O'Hagan (the High Llamas) formed the basis of his next solo release, which he spent the next few years completing back in Brazil. Reuniting with the Luaka Bop label, he released his sophomore effort, The Good Is a Big God, in 2018. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
