The way producer KutMasta Kurt sees it, underground rap duo Dopestyle 1231 are "...a bong full of supersonic hydroponic that you ain't had b4." That "ain't had b4" part relates to the gothic-influenced and quirky style rapper MC Dopestyle brings to the table. His love of Bauhaus, the Residents, the Misfits, and gangsta rap makes for an interesting batch of influences in anyone's book. While MC Dopestyle was kicking off his career with an appearance on Peanut Butter Wolf's 1996 EP Step On Our Egos?, DJ Tom C was getting gigs around the Bay Area working the turntable like his heroes Kurtis Mantronik, Ced G, and Marley Marl. He had already handed KutMasta Kurt a demo in 1993 and when his idol dissed the tape, DJ Tom C vowed revenge, partnered with MC Dopestyle for Dopestyle 1231, and worked on his skills for a decade. It worked, since the duo's debut dropped in 2004 with the title KutMasta Kurt Presents Dopestyle 1231. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi
