Theremin pioneer, composer, performer and sound artist, Dorit Chrysler is the founder of the NY Thereminsociety and "Dame Electric" festival.
Her distinctive music style is described by Ann Magnuson in Paper Magazine: “Imagine if Marianne Faithfull and Nikola Tesla had a love child, with Jane Birkin as the nanny and Bjork as the wayward Girl Scout Leader!"
Following numerous releases and world wide touring over two decades, she is the recipient of the 2025 "Best Film Score" prize for the feature film "Happyland" as well as the Austrian State Composition Stipend. Commissioned by MoMA, she produced the quadrophonic work "Calder Plays Theremin" and was a participating artist at the Shanghai Biennale. Dorit has performed with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and collaborates with CERN on a regular basis. Applying the theremin in her compositions for Theater, Broadway, Film and TV, Dorit has scored a recent Tatort episode "Borowsky Und Das Haupt Der Medusa" a recipient of the 2025 TV Krimi Award & viewed by 8.81 Million people. Numerous collaborators include Alva Noto, Trentemoeller, Eliot Sharp, Cluster, Adult. and Lene Lovich. Concert appearances include Coachella, Roskilde Festival, Venice Bienale, Shanghai Bienale, Moderne Museet Stockholm, Volkstheater Berlin, Moogfest, Vienna Concert Hall, Palais Tokyo, Gaite Lyrique, Lincoln Center, MetMuseum, CBGB, LA Disney Hall and Aichi Worldfair.
