A hypnotic drumbeat, a memorable piano figure, some breezy saxophone ornaments and a soothing voice were the understated ingredients of Double’s very big worldwide hit “The Captain Of Her Heart”. The Swiss duo recorded most of its own instrumental parts - in effect doubling themselves -and the cover photo of the first album cleverly doubled the duo to make them look like a quartet. Vocalist/guitarist Kurt Maloo and drummer/keyboardist Felix Haug previously played in the band Ping Pong, whose minor European hit “Rhythm Walk” was an artsy, experimental cut similar to the earliest Double recordings. “The Captain Of Her Heart” was the single from the group’s first million selling album, “Blue”, which was also pressed on blue vinyl. On their second album, “Dou3le”, they had the chance to collaborate with Herb Alpert on „Devils Ball“, a song that conquered many hearts in Latin America. During the recording of their third album in 1988 the group broke up, but their music lives on. Kurt Maloo went solo and recorded several albums in his unique style; Haug was writing film scores, but died of a heart attack in 2004. A reminiscence of their mutual works has been released in 2006 on Loopy Avenue.
