Dr. Gunni (aka Gunnar Lárus Hjálmarsson b. 1965) has been a participant in the Icelandic music underground (and overground) since 1980, when he appeared first on stage supporting legendary Icelandic punk bands Fræbbblarnir and Utangarðsmenn with group Dordinglar. The 80s he spent making underground rock with groups F/8, Geðfró, S.H. Draumur and Bless. In the 90s he started using the moniker Dr. Gunni (named after his trusty sidekick, drum machine Dr. Rhythm), at first making extra noisy ditties on records for the Finnish avant garde label Bad Vugum. In 1997 he entered the children's pop market with the album Abbababb!, which contained the mega popular song Prumptufólkið (The Farting People). Also in the 90s he was in pop group Unun. In 2002 the four piece group Dr. Gunni began, making it's debut album in 2003. The second album came in 2021 and the third Dr. Gunni album is due in 2024.
