Recorded in Vancouver with sound designer Mirko Vogel (Cut Copy), Dralms’ "Love Writes Itself" is Christopher Smith’s full bloom exploration of romantic, if heartbreaking, orchestral pop. It meshes the ambient digital washes of his project’s earliest work with blushing woodwinds and opulent string arrangements; all of this anchored by songwriter Smith’s soft, but resolute tenor. In the great tradition, he frames the ups and downs of our personal lives through the poetry of flora. But a flower cannot exist solely as a still life, or thrive once plucked and put on a windowsill; one day, it’ll die. "Love Writes Itself" finds beauty within it all, embracing the ache of defeat before pushing past the soil once more.
