Dream Dream Dream is the experimental pop project of Matty Fasano and Todd Goldstein. The band crafts lush, romantic songs that channel classic influences through a hazy, unsettling filter.
Fasano, who runs the NYC-based label House of Feelings, originally envisioned Dream Dream Dream as a kind of house band, a showcase for new friends and long-time collaborators. But Dream Dream Dream’s freewheeling, big-tent ethos surrounds a more intimate core: the partnership between Fasano and Goldstein, in the making for over fifteen years. The duo first paired up in ARMS, the nervy art-rock outfit that became Goldstein’s focus in the early 2010s after the dissolution of his old band, Harlem Shakes. As the five-piece ARMS toured the U.S. with acts like The Walkmen and Japandroids, the two musicians became the kind of close friends who finish each other’s sentences. Fasano went on to found House of Feelings, where he produced singles and managed artists like 4AD’s cumgirl8.
In Dream Dream Dream, the obsessions that run through each of Fasano and Goldstein’s respective projects weave together into a sound that is old and new at once: classic pop songwriting that swerves and hits stranger and more surprising notes; sky-scraping melodies draped in tremolo guitars and reverb-drenched shoegaze textures. The resulting sound is both delicate and deep enough to drown in, like sunlight playing across the surface of a tidal wave.
