DREAMCAR -- the supergroup collision of members of <a href="spotify:artist:0cQbJU1aAzvbEmTuljWLlF">No Doubt</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:19I4tYiChJoxEO5EuviXpz">AFI</a> -- made their surprise debut in 2017 with the release of their first single, "Kill for Candy." Drenched in the sleek sounds of '80s synth pop and new wave, DREAMCAR's vision veered closer to vocalist <a href="spotify:artist:1Q1ItjYrk6Si5q4tQtRbx8">Davey Havok</a>'s work on his other side project, <a href="spotify:artist:2pumHFoeb64XWvvGoGqsIr">Blaqk Audio</a>, while committing to the flirtations that bassist Tony Kanal, guitarist Tom Dumont, and drummer Adrian Young made on <a href="spotify:artist:0cQbJU1aAzvbEmTuljWLlF">No Doubt</a> tracks like their <a href="spotify:artist:7Fo8TAyGJr4VmhE68QamMf">Talk Talk</a> cover "It's My Life," or standout selections from 2012's Push and Shove like "Looking Hot" and "Heaven." Taking cues from major influences like <a href="spotify:artist:0yNLKJebCb8Aueb54LYya3">New Order</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:762310PdDnwsDxAQxzQkfX">Depeche Mode</a>, the guys met up in 2014 to gauge interest in the new project. After hitting it off, they decided to make it official, working in secret with producer Tim Pagnotta (<a href="spotify:artist:0RpddSzUHfncUWNJXKOsjy">Neon Trees</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6DIS6PRrLS3wbnZsf7vYic">Walk the Moon</a>) of <a href="spotify:artist:04RtvnUz0XrUbUZzOA8ZoW">Sugarcult</a>. With the power of the <a href="spotify:artist:0cQbJU1aAzvbEmTuljWLlF">No Doubt</a> rhythm section and <a href="spotify:artist:1Q1ItjYrk6Si5q4tQtRbx8">Havok</a>'s distinctive vocals, DREAMCAR released their debut in 2017. ~ Neil Z.
