Drop Electric’s music is a manic barrage of soaring vocals, heavy guitars, atmospheric textures, and tribal percussion, controlled by structured, dynamic songwriting. Their live show has been described as “epic” by NPR, and most aptly “...as if the listener has started to sleepwalk through a dark art house film” by the DCist.
They are currently scoring “Throughline,” NPR’s first history podcast.
Drop Electric's debut album, "<a href="spotify:album:3y3Y4OHqIrPNWZ8lEo6kSs" data-name="Finding Color in the Ashes">Finding Color in the Ashes</a>" was self-released in 2010. Exploring a dark post-rock sound reminiscent of <a href="spotify:artist:34UhPkLbtFKRq3nmfFgejG" data-name="Mogwai">Mogwai</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:53LVoipNTQ4lvUSJ61XKU3" data-name="MONO">MONO</a>, it helped them break through in the DC music scene.
In the following years, the band transformed their sound with the addition of a vocalist, Kristina Reznikov, and released the "<a href="spotify:album:0XzOGtPkKKfwpmjYiSsGQb" data-name="Drop Electric Sampler Platter">Drop Electric Sampler Platter</a>" EP. Their song "<a href="spotify:track:7rFAtP2dtBMrs3KayXFgUL" data-name="Empire Trashed">Empire Trashed</a>" was featured on NPR's "All Songs Considered," after the show’s host caught a live performance in DC.
Drop Electric released their label debut, “<a href="spotify:album:1Su1ZGKxdBNwBo6xrs5MAx" data-name="Waking up to the Fire">Waking up to the Fire</a>,” on Lefse Records in 2013 to critical praise, gaining acclaim from NPR, MTVU, and Consequence of Sound.
In 2015, the band released "<a href="spotify:album:2N812OROqgf2GVCEbIiCVc" data-name="Lost in Decay">Lost in Decay</a>" via Waaga Records in the US and Rallye Label in Japan. Completed before the departure of Reznikov, it was a return to their post-rock, guitar-based sound.
