Dwayne Shivers is a rotating folk band from East Atlanta, GA, fronted by songwriter Micah Dalton and, most recently, producer / multi-instrumentalist/ mixing engineer Anthony Aparo, of Improvement Movement.
“Are You Nice?” was written after a conversation Dalton had with a stranger at a Brooklyn bodega. The stranger posited the question “Are You Nice?” in such a way that struck a contemplative nerve and inspired creation of the song. Conceptually, the video and message “Are You Nice?”( produced and filmed by David Nobles of HOLY) are explorations of civility and innocence through a search for virtue, with subtle southern oddities that soften and endear along the way. Stylistically, the song is a cultural junkyard, set in the cracks of Atlanta’s cultural lore, paraphrasing Beck and PM Dawn into a fun, simple treat. Dwayne Shivers teamed up with GroupLove’s Dan Gleason at Big Trouble Studios in 2019 to produce “Are You Nice” feat. Portier out now.
