Bo Diddley's music director and electric violinist from 1966 until 1967, and a former sideman for Mongo Santamaria, Ray Barretto and Ike and Tina Turner, Eddie Drennon brought a Latin edge to the disco era of the 1970s. Scoring a major disco hit, in 1975, with "Let's Do The Latin Hustle", Drennon went on to record three dance-inspiring albums with Eddie Drennon And BBS Unlimited, in the late-1970s, and produce New York-based salsa and charanga band, Orquesta Novel, in 1981 and 1982.
A veteran of the Washington, DC club scene, Drennon was "discovered" by Harlem-born Afro-Caribbean bandleader, Lou Perez, in the early-1960s. With Perez's encouragement, he relocated to New York, where he worked with Pupi Legarreta, Don Ganzalo Fernandez's Super Tipica De Estrellas, Tipica Ideal and Charanga America. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
