Eddie Matos was influenced by late 1970s disco.  He has been inspired by listening to Larry
Levan, Tony Humphries,  Shep Pettibone  and Little Louie Vega. In 1985 he was introduced to Vega
and through the late 80’s he learned about studio production and engineering by hanging out in the
studios. In 1989 he started working on his productions with John Mateo and soon after went under
the moniker Mateo & Matos. After several releases on their own Final Cut Records label, they went
on to record for Freeze, Henry Street, Distant Records, Nervous Records, Nite Grooves, West End,
King Street, Large Records, Bargrooves and Spiritual Life Music in the mid-1990s.

Their debut album as producers, New York Rhythms, appeared on the Scottish Glasgow Underground
Recordings label in 1997, with a second volume appearing the following year. In 1999, these were
followed by The Many Shades of Mateo & Matos. From 2000 until today they continue to produce on
a myriad of labels.

During the same time period, Eddie has had solo albums with Under The Counter Records, All
Directions & Disko Method. Also recorded an album for Rhythm Life Recordings, Disco to Disco Part
1 & 2.

Under Mateo & Matos, they have since brought their work to deejay appearances in over 30
countries and dozens of original productions and remixes on record labels such as Fluential
Records, Barclay/Polygram, and Marlboro Records.
