Ella Atkinson turns to music for healing as a songwriter and a listener. Rooted in acoustic folk, the music she writes invites listeners into an intimate soundscape of emotion and vulnerability centered around her voice, guitar, and lyrics—all flowing together to capture an authentic piece of herself to share with the world. To Ella, songwriting is an outlet she uses to voice her emotions and heal from personal experiences. It's where she finds connection with herself and the world around her.
Ella's love for music started with her father, Kevin Atkinson, who is also a musician. After spending most of her childhood sharing the stage with him and her sister, it wasn't until high school that she heard <a href="spotify:artist:5sXaGoRLSpd7VeyZrLkKwt" data-name="Gregory Alan Isakov">Gregory Alan Isakov</a>'s music for the first time. At that moment, she realized what kind of music she longed to create as an artist. Ella's love for acoustic folk manifested into an appreciation for artists such as <a href="spotify:artist:4aKWmkWAKviFlyvHYPTNQY" data-name="Adrianne Lenker">Adrianne Lenker</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5G49Sq5mMzAkGL4ZP6eVPY" data-name="The Staves">The Staves</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3jzXlBF2157k4exx7idecs" data-name="Leif Vollebekk">Leif Vollebekk</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7E1o9IcnpiFQDlAUk2H7Az" data-name="Madi Diaz">Madi Diaz</a>, all of whose music has resonated powerfully with her over the years.
In the year before graduating from Berklee College of Music, Ella released her debut single, "that way." The song opens with an emotion-provoking guitar motif that carries throughout the tune—painting a landscape of uncertainty, doubt, and the loss of love and connection with oneself, betwixt and between her vulnerable lyrics.
If meant to, her music will find you.
