Elou Elan is the artist name of the Danish-Norwegian, singer-songwriter, Eva-Louise Rønnevig.
As a true Scandinavian her music is elegant and melancholic, and her voice and storytelling mesmerizingly strong and fragile at the same time. After a nine-year pause, Elou Elan is back on the scene with the forthcoming album That Ocean. Produced by Elou Elan and Brian Batz (Sleep Party People) and to be released Spring 2020 on Glorious Records. The album’s three singles, Gravity is Crucial, A Sign and You Know show Elou Elan is moving into a more ambient-pop sound on her new record, like fellow female artists Stina Nordenstam and Julianna Barwick. In a muted piano-based soundscape accompanied by heart-breaking strings, Elou Elan is exploring the inner ocean of grief.
Her five-star debut album All That Turns, released September 2011, beautifully combines the moods of 1950s jazz, Nordic folk, Brill Building pop and French chanson. The album was produced by the American poet Neill C. Furio, and features Danish and Norwegian pop and jazz musicians. It received a warm welcome in the Danish music press, and also by BBC host Gilles Peterson. A special mix of Sunday Times is available on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Bubblers Six -music from the worldwide underground. After the release of All That Turns, Elou Elan collaborated with two different DJs in 2011 and 2013, which brought The Great Illusion with French dj Q.G. and Possibilities with the Danish DJ Flip.
