I’m ELYO, a Brisbane-based musician making multi-genre-style tracks that capture the sporadic nature of whatever's going on in my heart. The name came from my school laptop, username, which abbreviated my actual name (Ethan Lyons) in a cool way. My friend Jack Hawkins turns to me and goes, "That's gonna be your stage name in the future." My love for music started early—at four, I was hammering on a toy drum kit at church, trying to match the drummer’s energy. My first attempt at recording was a rough cover of Ed Sheeran’s Photograph, thrown together in GarageBand with a random shotgun mic meant for a Canon camera. It was so bad, but I became obsessed with the idea that you could simply record audio and listen to it back. I kept getting better & better over time, releasing songs on Spotify when I was still in school. My music teacher, Mr Drew, pulled me aside after class and told me, "You need to keep doing this, there’s something here". I don't know why, but it sparked something, and now, I’m hooked on the indie sound—think Her’s, Dayglow, Beach Boys, Steve Lacy— jangly chorus guitars, punchy lo-fi drums and lyrics about navigating life, love, ambition, and your place in it all. Everything from writing, recording, producing, mixing/mastering is all done by me, so if the mix sucks, you know why... I fricken love it though, and I genuinely hope it speaks to you in some way. With love - ELYO
