Emerging from a string of underground rock and hardcore bands in the early 2000s, London-based Empty Friend formed following a chance meeting at a Soundgarden reunion show in the UK in 2015.
College friends Ryan O’Hare (guitar) and Karl Morgan (drums) met with Dave Kirk (vocals) to set up a new, heavy project, in the mould of hard rock heroes Soundgarden, Kyuss and Alice in Chains, amongst others.
The band settled on the name Empty Friend – taking it from a track by L.A. rockers Failure – and with the addition of Dave Norman on bass, the line-up was settled and work began towards their first studio EP ‘Saltwater’ (2018).
Empty Friend hit the heavy rock scene with shows in London and the South of England, building a following and crafting a crop of heavier, riff-laden material.
Hitting a more honest and uncompromising sound, the band returned to the studio to record their follow-up EP ‘Falter’ in the summer of 2019 (released February 2020).
Now, veterans of the London heavy rock scene, Empty Friend has slowly carved out a dedicated following in the capital, forming part of the London hard rock / stoner / grunge collective ‘Civil War London’.
In late 2019, they were signed to MAS Records’ Band Development Program (supported by Patrons Robert Plant [Led Zeppelin] and Ricky Wilson [Kaiser Chiefs]).
