Ethnocide was formed in the southern suburbs of Stockholm in 1989 as a part of a growing death metal scene in Sweden. The original lineup featured Johan Thorsell on vocals, Fredrik Brånstad and Joakim Kärrström on guitars, Patrik Asplund on bass guitar and Peter Eklund on drums. Patrik Asplund and Peter Eklund left Ethnocide after a while to form the band Stigmata. With the new drummer Joakim Borén and bass player Marcus Hammarström in 1991, Ethnocide would from thereon take on a more political and aggressive but melodic sound which is represented in the 1993 demo ”TEARFUL”. It was first recorded in early 1992 but due to technical problems and a studio owner doing time in jail the recording was postponed to 1993. During that time in between recordings Marcus Hammarström and Joakim Kärrström dropped out and Staffan Skoglund became the fourth pillar of the ongoing quartet in late 1992. Stefan Guteklint from Opeth played the bass guitar on the final recording of ”TEARFUL”. Just before recording a second demo, containing songs as ”My room” and ”A life”, the band suddenly split up in late 1994.
