Born Ruth Evelyn Tyler to a deacon's family in St. Louis, Missouri, Evelyn Turrentine-Agee is a lifelong performer and charting gospel vocalist. She began singing publicly with her father at age three, eventually becoming part of her family's female gospel group the Tylerettes and, later, groups such as the Gospel Echoettes and the War on Sin Choir. She married Chris Turrentine while earning a degree at the University of Detroit and, part of a large family herself, went on to have a double-digit-sized household in her adopted city of Detroit, Michigan. Her major-label solo debut, titled In God's Own Time, arrived via A&M Records in 1992 while the singer was in her forties. It hit the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. God Did It! followed suit in 2000, and in 2002 she released the concert video Live in Detroit as well as the live album Testimony: God Did It Live! It's Already Done returned her to the gospel charts in 2003, as did 2005's Go Through. Frequently changing labels after her debut, she released the double-length Double Exposure with WOS Recordings; There's Gonna Be a Meeting followed on Shanachie Records in 2010. Another gospel charter, Born to Worship, was issued by Ophir Gospel in 2013, and One More Day arrived on the same label in 2015. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
