I’m Aleksandr Murzakov, and together with Max Shmer, we form Evolution of Trees, an acoustic duo from Los Angeles. Our music blends psychedelic folk, modal harmonies, and live percussion, creating immersive, meditative soundscapes that evolve between composition and improvisation. Using open and alternate guitar tunings and flatpicking techniques inspired by instruments like the oud and bouzouki, I craft melodies that feel ancient, hypnotic, and otherworldly, while Max’s cajón provides a dynamic, expressive foundation.
Our debut album, R3 (Roots, Roads, and Rhythms), grew out of improvisations, sketches, and ideas I’ve been developing since the early 2000s. It is a musical journey—starting with external landscapes like deserts, Eastern dances, and medieval ballads, and moving inward toward introspection and self-discovery. Tracks like Rolling Tumbleweed carry decades of evolution, from bouzouki and mandolin to the guitar in Open G tuning, while other pieces unfold as trance-like explorations of rhythm and melody.
For me, Evolution of Trees is about sharing these journeys with listeners—inviting them to experience something deeply immersive, meditative, and alive. I hope our music takes you on a path through outer worlds and inner landscapes, connecting ancient traditions with modern improvisation.
