Based out of New York City’s Brooklyn borough, multimedia group Fall on Your Sword were established by Englishmen Will Bates and Phil Mossman. Bates has played saxophone for a range of artists, including Paul McCartney, collaborated with jazz legend Roy Ayers and house innovator Marshall Jefferson, and released an album with Electric Six's Dick Valentine as Evil Cowards. Mossman once worked extensively beside David Holmes as a studio associate and was an original member of LCD Soundsystem. Fall on Your Sword first gained significant notice with their music for a Nomis football boots commercial, which won a Gold Clio Award, as well as a Gold Lion at Cannes; the clever song they composed for the ad, titled “Damn Boots,” was released as a single in 2008. The duo produced humorous original clips while continuing to do commercial work and branching into films, beginning with Kitao Sakurai's Aardvark. Their score for Mike Cahill's 2011 film Another Earth was released on Milan, while two of its tracks, “The First Time I Saw Jupiter” and “Rhoda’s Theme,” were issued in extended form on a 12” single through DFA, the label operated by LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
