Sunshine reggae-euphoria, dark pumping ska sequences, heavy hard hitting dub, and dance-driven delirium; Fat Picnic has a reputation for taking audiences through a roots-feast of feels framed by absolute party madness.
The mid 2010’s saw this humble Brisbane collective rise to underground notoriety in the party festival scene, with a succession of performances at Caloundra Music Festival (2016/2017) Splendour in the grass (2017) Woodford Folk Festival (2019) and Island Vibe Festival (2016/2019) as well as a plethora of grass roots music festivals Australia-wide. Woodford Folk Festival involved 6 performances including the NYE countdown set at The Parlour stage.
That same year saw the release of their debut LP ‘Get Out of My Fridge’ recorded and produced with Paulie Bromley (George, Ziggy Alberts, Bobby Alu) and OJ Newcomb (Afro Dizzi Act, Band of Frequencies). In 2023 ‘the Picnic’ has solidified a reputation for their sweaty on-stage festive fiasco; an enticing ruckus of antics that causes alarming spikes in dopamine at every show.
Hughie Doherty launched the project in 2012, establishing a band culture of untethered creativity and wackiness. In 2015 Graham Moes joined as the new frontman and co-songwriter. This change in line-up saw an evolution of the project; a coalescence of songwriting styles that created the bedrock for their dynamic blend of reggae, dub, ska, funk and soul.
