Fell is Nicolas Burrows: an artist, illustrator & musician from Lancashire
"Beautiful, sheeny, witty, baroque pop…very very special indeed."
- Lauren Laverne, BBC6 Music
“I really really love his delivery; it’s incredibly personal…a beautiful voice.”
- Guy Garvey, BBC6 Music
Nicolas Burrows began making music in Leeds in the early 2000s, fronting several indie/post-rock bands. A trip to Norway in 2006 gave him material to write an EP, and since then he’s worked largely solo with an evolving cast of band members and collaborators.
With Fell and previous project Glaciers, Burrows plays with idiosyncratic lyrics as counterpoint to a wonky-pop vernacular, taking in horticultural murder-ballads, studies in lost lore, ruminations on skirting boards and secret Lancastrian space-programs. Fell’s current lineup includes artist/musician Matt DeKersaint Giradeau (Dogtanion), Jon Rulton (Bear Driver/Dead Flowers) and Dav Shiel (Beth Jeans Houghton & The Hooves of Destiny).
'There Still Are Mysteries' was released on Nous Vous Press in 2016 and was produced by Andy Ramsay of Stereolab. 'For The Pickling', an audio-visual EP was picked up by Lost Map in 2019 and features David Thomas Broughton and Luisa Gerstein of Deep Throat Choir/Landshapes. A singles project, 'Sides' produced 12 tracks between 2020 and 2021. Fell's latest album, the psychadelic-pastoral opus 'Mallows Marsh' came out on Lost Map in 2023. The band is currently releasing a steam of singles through 2024 and 2025.
