Born Félix Castro Rodríguez II in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and currently based in Charlotte, NC, Fénix Castro has no issue with letting the political seep into his writing while simultaneously weaving a story about what he loves or mourns. Having been born in a colony and survived the conditions it implies, the welcomes or farewells of a loved one, assuming the human condition from its affirmations and contradictions, among others, are some of the approaches that Fénix proposes, whether on a beat by Cardejez or Lu Tapes (among many others) or even to the melody of a bolero.
