As a self-described eccentric word-nerd – and observing the weirdness of life – Adelaide rapper FETHRZ is bringing his own fun style to the world of party-friendly hip-hop.
And it’s a style that’s hard to pin down; inspired by the likes of Trombone Shorty, The Cat Empire, and the Hilltop Hoods, but with an array of genres that can change direction multiple times throughout the course of a single song.
The debut studio single Puffer Jacket is no exception – mixing guitars, horns, and harmonies into a relentless blast of energy that sits somewhere between rap, funk, and pop. Plus, as you might have guessed from the title, it’s also a witty ode to what is arguably today’s most polarising item of clothing.
But while there’s plenty of quirkiness and humour on the surface, FETHRZ’s artistry is underpinned by a socially-conscious outlook, a passion for the environment, and a desire to challenge the status quo; motivations that will only become more apparent as he releases more music. He’s already given us one earworm of a chorus between hard-hitting bars, so watch out – because there’s plenty more coming soon.
