Flow Machines emerged out of Manchester in 2008 with a radical cover of an early-80s b-side by <a href="spotify:artist:1aX2dmV8XoHYCOQRxjPESG" data-name="The Human League">The Human League</a> called Hard Times.
Their first studio album of original tracks, '<a href="spotify:album:2JVObjM4xjDhQLK4WaK9u8" data-name="Every Last Drop">Every Last Drop</a>', appeared the following year produced in collaboration with Ollie Hammett and Mark Saunders, whose previous experience was with <a href="spotify:artist:762310PdDnwsDxAQxzQkfX" data-name="Depeche Mode">Depeche Mode</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3JxCEqL9zjKnDJgUhRuRJD" data-name="Neneh Cherry">Neneh Cherry</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0z5DFXmhT4ZNzWElsM7V89" data-name="Erasure">Erasure</a>.
Following good reviews Flow Machines quickly followed up with a second studio album, '<a href="spotify:album:2pahpachGgVlcxIZkUGYDf" data-name="Hi-Res">Hi-Res</a>' produced with the same team, and an accompanying EP of reworked versions with collaborators including <a href="spotify:artist:0FOcXqJgJ1oq9XfzYTDZmZ" data-name="Super Furry Animals">Super Furry Animals</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3b02YDnufwl9CPIblMomrD" data-name="Martin Carr">Martin Carr</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:14ep6TM2JzapH5nk7vaora" data-name="Akira The Don">Akira The Don</a>.
Now established and respected for synth-driven pop with introspective lyrics, Flow Machines was invited to produce remixes for others including <a href="spotify:artist:3Kf7VEIRWquxrNIuyJZnfF" data-name="Cornershop">Cornershop</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:4UTHeJ0TdH6zAEt5MoV02I" data-name="Delphic">Delphic</a>.
A third studio LP, '<a href="spotify:album:7nctB928o3oRk8vO3KSlzZ" data-name="All Of Life Is Stories">All Of Life Is Stories</a>', was released in 2016, this time produced in collaboration with Jim Spencer (<a href="spotify:artist:5fScAXreYFnuqwOgBsJgSd" data-name="The Charlatans">The Charlatans</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0yNLKJebCb8Aueb54LYya3" data-name="New Order">New Order</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6xgNzJAeEB8BTOSzcTO1EI" data-name="Factory Floor">Factory Floor</a>) and mastered at Abbey Road by Frank Arkwright (<a href="spotify:artist:3yY2gUcIsjMr8hjo51PoJ8" data-name="The Smiths">The Smiths</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1PXHzxRDiLnjqNrRn2Xbsa" data-name="Underworld">Underworld</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7MhMgCo0Bl0Kukl93PZbYS" data-name="Blur">Blur</a>).
Flow Machines has remained a studio only project, never having played live, and never having appeared in public. Flow Machines released a mini-LP 'Bonus Beats' in 2018 containing reworked semi-instrumental versions of their most recent tracks.
