Fons Scotia is a Scottish indie/alternative outfit, based between Dunfermline, Edinburgh and Perth, with blood brothers Craig Lithgow [vocals / guitar], Rhys Lithgow [vocals / drums] and Owen Morrice [bass guitar] and adopted brother David Macfarlane [vocals / guitar / keys / accordion] completing the line-up. They make lyrically poignant, self-professed bangers, where jangly, Johnny Marr-esque guitar riffs, are contrasted with bold, crunchy, AM era Arctic Monkeys ones. Added into the mix are subtle melodic adornments on the accordion, orchestral chimes, and keyboards. Exceptional vocal hooks and harmonies create captivating earworms and Craig’s accented delivery gives Fons Scotia’s sound a decidedly Scottish feel.
The band’s debut single Am I Doing It Right?, produced by David Macfarlane (Roseanne Reid, Hurricane 1, Ross Ainslie), was released on 11th July 2025. It is the perfect soundtrack for a “brief sojourn in a seaside town”. Musically, it is fun and upbeat, short and snappy. Lyrically, it is, at times, funny and tongue-in-cheek, at others, heartfelt and relatable. The resulting combination is a nostalgia-laden declaration of unconditional commitment to the loves of our lives. As the band’s lead songwriter, Craig, puts it, “Imagine if Brian Wilson was reincarnated as a hapless romantic Fifer and felt inclined to reimagine Arctic Monkey’s Mardy Bum in the realm of an excursion to Portobello Beach, that pretty much sums Am I Doing It Right? up.
