Like whiskey in the barrel, Tampa Bay rock ‘n’ roll quartet Four Star Riot just keeps getting smoother. While other purveyors of muscular, catchy pop were turning to nerdy irony, FSR has been filling rooms and playlists with a sexy, evocative blend of rhythm, melody and style, and new single “Adding It Up” is a perfect distillation of the band’s signature sonic swagger.
“Adding It Up” melds Cheap Trick’s riffs-and-hooks aesthetic to Arctic Monkeys’ back-to-mine after-hours chic via a slow-burn groove, vintage guitar fuzz and singer Steve Alex’s sultry yet vulnerable vocal presence. The whole thing recalls a time when rock was about heart and hormones, but still sounds fresh against a backdrop of fabricated beats and tunes by committee. It’s a fitting first taste of their forthcoming seventh album, and a delicious shot of a standalone banger to boot.
The band's music can be heard in the films Deadpool and Like Mike 2, as well as tv shows on MTV, ESPN, and others
"Well-executed mix of catchy hooks, sultry vocals, and classic rock”, writes Relix Magazine. Legendary musician and producer Al Kooper said of the band "They got me at the intro. I could've just listened to that for three minutes..I’m a fan now".
