San Diego-based guitarist Frank Massey incorporates a wide array of styles in his work, including funk, rock, blues, and jazz. His 2021 release Funky Nights showcases a spontaneous improvisational style, and features renowned jazz saxophonist Les Arbuckle and Argentinian drummer Bernardo Yacono.
Born in Naples, Italy, Massey studied guitar first in Italy and then in California before graduating from the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media. Influenced by the blues, he grew up listening to the jazz and rock greats from Hendrix and Steve Ray Vaughan to Robben Ford and John Scofield.
Moving between Italy and the USA before eventually landing in Southern California, he was also influenced by the Neapolitan Power and the Neapolitan Renaissance movements of the late 70s and early 90s, featuring a reggae, soul, and funk-infused mediterranean mix of jazz and rock.
