Straddling the line between traditional and progressive bluegrass, Frank Solivan emerged as one of the genre's leading lights in the 21st century. Skilled in mandolin, guitar, and violin, he debuted as Frank Solivan II in 2002, the year he released I Am a Rambler. One other solo album -- 2006's Selfish Tears -- followed before he formed Dirty Kitchen with banjoist Mike Munford, guitarist Chris Luquette, and bassist Jeremy Middleton, the band that supported him on 2010's Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen and 2013's On the Edge. The band received a considerable signal boost in 2014 when Cold Spell received a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album. In 2016, Solivan released Family Friends & Heroes, an album studded with guest cameos. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
