Growing up playing guitar in elementary school, Gary spent his youth in Texas in obscure bands such as the Derelicts, Captain Midnight, and Group 3. With a move to Austin, Texas, in 1971, he became more serious about writing and performing music.
In Austin, he joined up with a couple of high school friends – Judi West and David Hisbrook – and Michael “T-bird” Jackson from Laredo, Texas. Forming Wilcox-Jackson and later Wilcox-West, they played venues like Split Rail, Saxon Pub, Sit’n’Bull, and the Armadillo World Headquarters.
Leaving the band in 1975, Wilcox continued to perform, and some of these songs were written and recorded during that time. Wilcox writes the music, sings, plays mandolin, 5-string banjo, acoustic guitar, bass, and telecaster guitar on these tracks. He has recently begun recording new material in his Austin, Texas, studio.
