Gimmick is a Boston based band who blends together their funk, rock, and improvisational instincts to create music that you can get lost in. They're currently working on new material and releasing their first album "Scrunch" on 12/05/2025.
They formed in 2022, when guitarist Jack Kiley met bassist John McGinley at in event at Turtle Swamp Brewing. The pair had both known that the other wanted to play music, and within minutes had agreed to set up a jam session within the week. Kiley was able to rope in drummer Matt Hamilton and after one session, the trio realized they had something special on their hands.
Hamilton left the band in the middle of 2024, which led the band to ask Michael Mascheri to fill in for some upcoming gigs. After four shows, Mascheri asked the band, “am I still filling in, or am I the drummer?”. The answer was emphatically that he was the new drummer of the band. Mascheri, through his art-house Critter Mill, has developed Gimmick's visual style including their logo and mascot, Mimbo Muggins.
Over the next year, the trio kept up performing live and working on their following playing State Park, the Midway Cafe, and FirstLive (NYC). This year, they toned down their performance schedule in order to record their upcoming album, “Scrunch” which will be released on 12/05/2025. Their first single from the album, 'Unglued" is available on all major streaming services.
