seattle-based agender dudeperson's music adventure. the hour of EmoProg™ is here.
Contemplative, cinematic, and angular, Glass Noose emerged from the Seattle scene in 2020 as the “optimistically pessimistic” brainchild of Tristan Zemtseff, joined live by bassist David Cole and drummer Shaun Smiley. The name itself points to the piercingly political and fatalistic nature of Zemtseff’s lyricism. Yet despite its cynicism, Glass Noose still somehow twists itself into an optimistic conclusion. While addressing difficult subject matter like death and loss, police brutality, and the rebranding of slavery into prison labor, Glass Noose's music ultimately concludes with a twinge of optimism focused on growing beyond past identities, overcoming fear, and fighting through self-loathing to support new development.
Zemtseff themself is anything but cliche. Black, agender, opinionated, articulate –and often zany and playful– they write at times with searing derision for the establishment; at others, with an off-kilter contemplation of the introspective, at yet others with sheer prog delight. Their work encompasses both a uniquely activist progressive metal and a cerebral exploration of the existential. Thoughtful and eccentric, Glass Noose draws from the best of post-hardcore and emo while intentionally blurring the lines between math rock, indie, and metal.
Glass Noose’s upcoming LP GLAZZ NOOZE is scheduled for release in early 2024.
